Pavilion Is Flirting With Presidio Heights, But Only for a Month

For the month of February only, Presidio Heights is going to be the best place in the city to shop for “elevated basics” like high-end tees, jeans, and Golden Goose sneakers. That’s because Pavilion, the Mission-based styling and retail destination, is spreading its wings and venturing north for a pop-up at the Bar Code. What’s the deal and why should you go? We thought you’d never ask.

Pavilion founder Mariko Yamasaki was working as a freelance personal stylist for “high networth individuals” —ranging from CEOs to trust funders—when she realized there was a hole in the market for people who wanted her fashion expertise but may not have the funds for a one-on-one wardrobe overhaul. “With my own store, I could be flexible as a stylist and work in their homes, in my shop, some kind of hybrid or just help people who walked in looking for a pair of jeans without even knowing they needed/wanted a stylist! I love the combination of excellent product and people knowledge,” Yamasaki said.

At Pavilion, Yamasaki combines “elevated everyday essentials” with the expertise of professional stylists, all under one roof. “At this point I think we're really denim and jewelry gurus but we love head to toe styling,” she said. The store focuses on brands that produce in “developed nations only” and Yamasaki works hard to source things as close to San Francisco as possible.

“If it's not U.S. made there's a reason,” she explained. For example, Moussy—which she says is the softest denim—is handmade in Japan, while Golden Goose sneakers are handmade in Italy. Pavilion is also the exclusive San Francisco retailer for a number of brands like Paris-based Pascale Monvoisin and NYC’s Roule & Co, and they carry store exclusives from a number of other brands like San Francisco’s Frances Austen.

Pavilion’s Bar Code pop-up (at 3600 Sacramento Street), will feature pieces for both men and women, including “the best selection of T-shirts and jeans and the largest selection of Golden Goose in SF.” Yes, Yamasaki says Pavilion has “a bigger and different (and better) assortment [of Golden Goose] than the department stores and the actual Golden Goose store downtown.”

Venture over to the Bar Code from February 1 through March 1 to scope it out and find something special for yourself.
