Allbirds Branches Out With a Plant-Based Textile Called Tree
Think the whole "wool runner" persona is critical to San Francisco-based Allbirds' DNA? Not so fast. This week, the brand introduced a new line of shoes made from eucalyptus pulp, called the Tree collection, and the company says it's their most sustainable material to-date.
"Crafted from a textile that Allbirds engineered using Eucalyptus pulp, our Tree collection creates a cooling effect by wicking away moisture and, in concert with a silky-smooth mesh construction, delivers unmatched breathability and supreme comfort," Allbirds explains in a statement. "Through a unique 3D-knitting process, we have been able to target the integration of structure and support into the upper, where feet need it most. And the Wool-lined insole and heel cup ensures the soft fit Allbirds has become synonymous with."
The Tree line features the original Runner silhouette, and the Skipper, a modern take on the 1930’s classic boat shoe. Both Tree and Wool styles retail for $95. You can see more photos of Tree in action, below.
