Start Your Year With All the Art and Design Inspo at Fog Fair
There are two types of people who attend Fog Design + Art, (aka Fog Fair.) In the first group, we have the art-loving One-Percenters who make these types of events possible. The people who purchase an Ai Weiwei stack of bicycles or one of Kohei Nawa’s PixCell taxidermied deer. The folks who contribute their acquisitions to SFMOMA. We love these people, because they make it possible for the rest of us in the second group—those without nine-figure balances in the bank—to get up close and personal with some of the best modern art and design from around the globe. Whether you’re a collector or you just love ogling beautiful objects, Fog Fair is coming back to the Fort Mason Festival Pavilion next week with 48 exhibitors, including six new galleries participating for the first time.
For those of you new to Fog, think of it as a four-day pop-up of the finer things in life: art and furniture and loveliness. Organizers also host a series of conversations and panel discussions with notable figures working in art, design, and technology. Highlights include a conversation with Facebook’s Artist in Residency Director Tina Vaz (3 pm Saturday), artist talks with Rashaad Newsome and Simon Denny (11:30 am Sunday and 3 pm Thursday, respectively), a conversation about how to meaningfully collect and raise the profile of women artists (4:30 pm Friday), and a talk about art, food, design and the interplay with beloved SF chef Corey Lee (1 pm Friday).
Lectures, browsing, and shopping run from 11 am–7 pm from Thursday, January 16 through Saturday, January 18, and from 11 am until 5 pm on Sunday, January 19. Tickets, available on Eventbrite, are $25 in advance, and $32 after January 15. Your ticket guarantees you entry to the fair throughout the weekend, so you can come and go as you please. Most of the programming is included in the ticket price, and Jane will be on site through the weekend to keep you fueled with coffee and pastries.
Don your most avant-garde ensemble—or not—and score your ticket early. Fog Fair is shaping up to be a visual feast for collectors and gawkers alike.
