What Bay Area Native Mahershala Ali Wore to Pick Up His Oscar
As he demonstrated while playing Remy Danton on House of Cards and Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes on Luke Cage, Mahershala Ali wears a suit better than anyone in Hollywood. His monochromatic turn at the Oscars was no exception.
Ali—who was born in Oakland and raised in Hayward—picked up the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in Moonlight. His outfit for the big moment? A black Ermenegildo Zegna Couture tux, black shirt, black bow tie, and black shoes. The only thing that wasn't entirely black was his black and white patterned pocket square.
It's not easy to make all all-black tuxedo interesting, but leave it Ali to carry the look with aplomb. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to watch this Bay Area star walk away with more awards in more dapper outfits for many years to come.
And if you want to catch Ali not in a suit—which isn't a bad thing at all—check out his new Calvin Klein underwear ads with his Moonlight cast mates. Even in a t-shirt and lounge pants, Ali is devastatingly handsome.
