Exhausted Your Netflix Options? Try Philo
While arguably impossible, the buzz across social media is many of you have officially watched everything on Netflix, and now you’re bored. Books have been read, bread has been baked, wall hangings have been macra-made; you need a new source of entertainment. Philo wants to fill that void.
Philo is yet another Bay Area streaming service, offering you yet another reason to break up with cable. The pitch? All the drama, none of the sportball.
You see, cable is crazy expensive because of sports, and pretty damn cheap if you cut out those ball games. If you’re not watching sports, you’re grossly overpaying for all your extra channels.
Philo does the cutting-out for you, giving you 59 channels—including A&E, AMC, BBC America, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, Food Network, Hallmark Channel, HGTV, ID, Lifetime, MTV, Nickelodeon, OWN, and Tastemade—for $20 per month. You can stream Philo in all the standard places. It works on your computer (Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox), TV (Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku), and mobile devices, (iOS/iPad, Android Mobile devices, and Fire Tablets).
With one Philo account, you get profiles for up to 10 users and can watch on up to three different devices at the same time. (You and your SO, you and your kids, you and the roomies; it’s all good.) There’s unlimited 30-day DVR, a decent on-demand movie library, plus the ability to pause any live channel, start programs from the beginning, and watch any program that has aired in the past three days. There’s currently no party extension to let you watch House Hunters with friends, but they’re working on it.
Wanna try it out before you officially cut the cable? Head over to Philo for a free seven-day trial and $5 off your first month—if you like it—with our referral link.
