Roksanda Ilinčić x Lululemon Is Gym Wear for Fashion Lovers
Athletic wear is part of our lives, whether you like it or not, and ready-to-wear designers are increasingly gravitating toward collabs to flex their sartorial muscles in the performance market. Stella McCartney and Mary Katrantzou create collections for Adidas, Derek Lam partnered with Athleta, Virgil Abloh and Nicolas Ghesquiere have taken turns at Nike, and Olivier Rousteing created a collection for Barry’s this year. Now, it’s London-based designer Roksanda Ilinčić’s turn to show off her vision for the gym at Lululemon.
The first of the designer’s two “drops” with Lululemon—a 16-piece capsule—launched in October. The collection features oodles of Ilinčić’s trademark elements likes voluminous shapes, exaggerated proportions, and color-blocking galore, and most of the pieces retail between $78 and $398, but the Inner Expanse Infinity Coat— the standout from the fall capsule—will set you back $998. While that is absurdly expensive for Lululemon, it can be layered or disassembled into a coat, puffer jacket, and light trench according to the climate or your mood.
The collection is available online and in select Lululemon stores. In the Bay Area, you can find pieces in Lululemon’s Union Square location (327 Grant Avenue), and at Santana Row (334 Santana Row, #1035). And if you’re really down with Ilinčić’s take on athleisure, there’s more to come in January 2020.
