Hand Sanitizers You Can Still Order Online (Spoiler: None Are Purell)
If you’ve consumed any media whatsoever in the last week, you know that you should be washing your hands non-stop to reduce your chances of contracting or spreading the coronavirus should it sweep the Bay Area. When good ol’ soap and water are not available, experts recommend using hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content. But if you’ve made a pass through your local Target or drugstore, you’ve also learned that San Francisco is pretty much sold out of hand sanitizer right now. Even worse—shudder—so is Amazon. But there’s still a small stock of hand sanitizer out there, if you know where to look.
Below, we’ve assembled six options that meet the 60% alcohol content threshold and are still available online (as of Monday, March 2). Plus, we’ve got links for where to find them.
Update, 3/4/2020: Most of these are now out of stock as well. The Aesop travel kit is still showing up as available at Neiman Marcus, and the Megababe still seems to be available online. Alys Grace brick and mortar stores in the Bay Area still have a few bottle of the Jao sanitizer.
As you’re shopping for virus-fighting supplies, think outside the box. Bed Bath and Beyond, for example, sells lots of household supplies and may still have hand sanitizer or wipes, even when Target does not. Cole Hardware sells household items as well, and has locations throughout the city. Walgreen’s has an inventory locator feature on its website, so you can check Purell stock levels instead of wasting time hopping from store to store. Be smart and don’t hoard all the germ-killing items; with a little cooperation, we’ll probably ride out this coronavirus scare unscathed.
