Britex Fabrics, Union Square's landmark fabric store, is officially in its new home at 117 Post Street, and gearing up for a grand opening celebration.

The 65-year-old textile and notions business relocated in December after partially-losing its lease at the original Geary space. (The Chronicle has more on those details, if you're interested.) The company's new home is an 8,000 square foot space with two full floors of fine fabrics, ribbons, buttons, and furnishing fabrics. While the total square footage is smaller than the former building, the ceilings are higher and there's more natural light.

To celebrate the new store, Britex will host a grand opening party on Thursday, January 11, (6-8 pm) and a sale January 8–12.

The caveat to sale is that you need to have a Britex "make something out of it" button to score the discount. The good news is you can still get a button. Visit the store between now and January 8, spend $50, and walk away with a button for use during sale week. (Be sure to ask for a button at checkout.) Button holders will receive 25 percent off all regular priced merchandise between from January 8-12.. Shop between 5 and 6 pm during grand opening week, and they'll even pour champagne for you.

It's a new chapter for Britex, and this is your chance to insert yourself into the story from the start.
