J'Amy Tarr Is Gifting Jackets to 50 Amazing Women
We’re two weeks into the Bay Area quarantine. People are still getting sick and dying. The economy’s a hot mess. No one knows how to feel. For most of us, daily life now involves some combination of hand-washing, coping mechanisms, Zoom calls, and attempting to use our talents to be better, more helpful humans. For local outerwear designer J’Amy Tarr, that means honoring women who are making a difference.
Last week, Tarr announced on social media that she would be giving away 50 jackets to 50 “strong women” to acknowledge the everyday heroes among us. To nominate someone, you can respond to Tarr’s original post on Facebook or Instagram, DM her on any of the social platforms with your nomination, or email her at jamy@jamytarr.com. Examples might include a healthcare worker, a grocery store clerk, or a postal or delivery worker.
Your nomination should include the person’s name, and what they’re “doing to help right now in a strong and brave way.” Tarr will select a jacket for each winner to brighten their day. After winners are selected, she’ll reach out for sizing and shipping information.
A new jacket may not save the world, but it’s a way to show appreciate for those who are working hard during this crisis. Nominate the amazing women on your radar today—let’s make it hard for Tarr to pick winners!—and don’t forget to tag them in your nomination. Even if your nominee isn’t one of the eventual winners, you can let her know that you see her hard work and appreciate her sacrifice.
And, because we’re still a lifestyle website, we’ve added a carousel of some of our favorite J’Amy Tarr designs below for your daily dopamine hit. (No affiliate links on this one, folks!) Tarr is a Bay Area native, her studio is in Mill Valley, and her jackets are all sewn in San Francisco. Price points are typically $350-$700; Tarr’s pieces are by no means “cheap,” but they’re an excellent value for the quality. Tarr’s Japanese wool is the only wool we’ve ever felt compelled to describe as “sumptuous,” and the floral faux fur bomber below is one of the coolest interpretations of the style you’ll ever find.
