The Perfect (Local-ish) Bag To Take You From Work to Play
There are lots of fashion startups with luxury market dreams, but few are able to break through that prestigious barrier as quickly as the Bay Area's Senreve. The line—dreamed in SF, designed in NYC, and made in Italy—is full of multitasking bags for the woman who needs to go from work to the gym to dinner with a single, functional purse.
The brand's first hit was the Doctor bag, but my Senreve obsession is the Maestra: a satchel that converts to a backpack. At $895-$995, (depending on the type of leather you choose), this is not a budget buy, but it is a beautiful and practical for everything from the office to travel.
Weighing just under three pounds, it's relatively light for a large leather bag. (Surprisingly, most leather bags of this size weigh around 4-5 pounds, empty.) It's can fit up to a 13 inch laptop, and it has lots of nooks and pockets for things like your phone, pens, keys, and cards. Even if you don't need carry a computer all day, the Maestra makes sense. Hopping a flight? It's big enough to pack and sweater, water bottle, and magazines or books. (If you're a super-light packer, you could possible use it as a weekender.) And it seems I'm not the Maestra's only fan. The bag is all over the blogosphere, and most of the color options are currently sold out or down to the final five units.
Wanna check out the Maestra for yourself? While Senreve is predominantly a direct-to-consumer e-commerce retailer, the brand recently opened an appointment-only showroom in San Francisco's Union Square at 251 Post Street. Email appointments@senreve.com to schedule a visit.
